Have some babies they are Thai green Texas x red mammon. Was wondering how many of them will fade and look real nice. Anyone do the same cross and have pics ? Any info appreciated

Actually I have found when you grow them together they establish a pecking order and they fade faster. A solitary fish may never have anything to trigger fading. Fading can start at 1" about 2.5 to 3 months but usually the earlier faders fade to a lighter color. That's why I said to keep only the pearly ones and scrap the rest leaving you plenty of room to grow out the pearly guys while waiting on their fade. If you keep too many non pearly ones you wI'll end up with many disappointing bland adult fish.

Just keep them all together as long as you can. There f1 so they are very unpredictable. They can look drastically different at 5-6" then they look at 2-3". It's very common for rt to develop pearls as they grow and many faders I've had start out pale and get much better over time. The amount of misinformation from people on here is rediculous- especially when it comes to red Texas... Best thing you could do is grow them all out a pay attention along the way. Good luck and enjoy them

I agree. Like the bit you mentioned about growing pearls as they age. A "texas" hybrid doesn't ever just develop pearls, pearly adults start out as pearly fry. After a couple spawns you get used to looking for tight clusters of pearling along the lateral line that spread as the fish grows. And advising to grow them all out will lead to disaster unless you have a thousand gallons of grow out space. Stick with the good ones all the way through and you won't be left with any crap at the end. Like most special breed animals.

It's a shame you don't know what your talking about... You have no idea of how many fry he has- so to say growing them all out would lead to disaster is just idiotic. You have no idea what he has for room- could have 28 large tanks in his basement for all you know, right? And as for the bit about pearls developing over time- this is completely true. I thought you had a clue from what I've seen you post, but saying all pearly adults start out as pearly fry is complete bs. You probably would know that if you didn't cull everything that wasn't pearly from the start. These aren't my opinions or something I've read or was told- they are FACTS based on my own experience.
