Hi do texas cichlid males
usually breed with only 1 partner
and i f the partner loose
they dont pair off
is the same goes with flowerhorn females also.

Both the texas and flowerhorn don't mate for life so you should be find if they are in breeding condition and you put the opposite sex in there for them to breed with. Some can be picky though.

I agree with you. They don't mate for lifetime as most of Dwarf Cichlids. They can pair up even with other male or female but make sure they are feed plenty of live foods and are in good breeding condition. Some of cichlids are very hard to get paired up unless and until we keep several juveniles, raise them and wait till those fish gets paired.

Hello, Im a bit new to this forum stuff and hope I can ask my question here as it pretains to this topic. I was recently given a Green Texas Cichlid and a Pearl FlowerHorn, I was told they were a breeding pair, however I dont believe anything until I can confirm it my self. I set up the tank as I knew how for breeding cichlids, plenty of substarte for them to dig, and flat rocks beneath the subsrtrate just above the under gravel filter. I have been watching them closely for signs of spawning, in which they have dug holes and uncovered the flat rock near the cave I set up for them.
Last night eggs were laid while I was a sleep, so I have no idea which one laid them, however, I do see the Flowerhorn with something protruding from his belly area (a small pink looking thing) and he (I was told this is the male) is skimming over the eggs and being very protective of the surrounding area.

Id like to know if there is a way for me to distinguish male and female, also, how do I know if the eggs have been fertalized?

I was told these two types of fish when bread create the Red Texas cichlid, in which I have one of these and is an extremly beautiful fish, wouldnt mind having more, expecially if I can raise a male to breed with her.

This is both of them, the female (Green Texas) is on top, the male is on the bottom

Heres one of just the male, it wont let me load the one of just the female, says its too big

Anything you can tell me would be awsome, Ive been keeping Oscars for years, but these cichlids are kinda new to me, expecially since they seem to be breeding, Ill get some more picks up later today.
