I got 2 texas cichlids today from real nice locals via craigslist. We exercised social distancing so I didn't go in and see fish in aquarium. Fish behavior, shape, etc I can normally nail the gender but can't vent worth a pile of beans. Depending on gender determines what tank they go in and I seek your council, thanks. And it's 2 different fish. So please be specific which you're referringIMG_20201227_212342413.jpgIMG_20201227_212316419.jpgIMG_20201227_212342413.jpgIMG_20201227_212316419.jpg

Might need to get some clearer pictures. Try holding camera slightly farther away and focusing on the vent
Agree, and why not post some photos of the cichlid, in side view.
If old enough, the gender differences just looking side view can be telling.
Although these are carpintus, not cyanoguttatus (the Texas cichlid), the same gender trait apply, even at @ 2inches, the males are quite obvious.

Thx. Deliberately didn't post any pics but vent as I didn't want the experts in this area to have any potential of their opinion being swayed.. guess only thing worse than my ability to vent is posting vent photos lol
