I have a male and female texas cichlid for about 3 months now,the thing is the female has grown from 1 1/2 to almost 4 in and the male is the same as when i first brought him home at 2 in.I have both in a 55 gallon.she does not pick on him,but eats pellets, flakes and krill he on the other hand only eats the krill.Im thinking that at this rate, in time she will kill him.Is there anything i can do i was hoping to get a breeding pair out of them.

Sounds to me that you have the sexes mixed up, Males tend to grow much faster than females. Ken

Withhold the krill and get him established on staple foods and then maybe the krill? I dunno each fish is different but I would try something like that. May have to seperate to make sure each on gets a good share.

the reason i was thinking it is a female is he/she has a huge black blotch on the dorsal fin and the other does not.could it be possible the other one is a sub female and that is why the blotch is not on him/her?
