Texas horned lizard

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember seeing them at pet stores when I was kid they called them horny toads. I never see them anymore.
They're protected in Texas. Not sure if that's a national thing though.

Looks like that one lost his tail.I like their look and wanted one years ago but never bothered since I did not want to go through the hassle of keeping them supplied with enough ants to eat.

Dispite growing up around them I've never tried to keep one. Our climate out here can be kind of crazy. I'd think caring for one would be some work lol

I know some people breeding some similar Phrynosoma species, it seems they're really a pain. If I was rich, I'd keep them. But the constant supply of ants will eat you out of house and home.

The bearded dragon makes for an all around better alternative. They look similar to the horny toads but are much easier to keep, feed and care for.

I used to see these guys all the time as a kid growing up in so cal. Haven't seen one in thirty years, I don't spend as much time in the fields on my bike like I did when I was seven though.
