First thanks for taking the time to read and respond. I picked up a green texas on Saturday from a not so local petstore. He is about 8-9 inches and despite a slight mouth deformity he is a very nice looking fish. He is the largest fish in a 125 gal, tank mates include 2 red mammon/kkp and a small pleco. Water parameters, temp etc are fine. I even did a 30% water change yesterday to see if that sparked anything. No fish have been chasing or nipping at him. I had been feeding the other fish grand sumo, nls, blood worms, krill, and Mysis shrimp. The texas seems to take a nibble here and there but as far as I have seen spits it out. I called the pet store to see what he may have been eating and I was told pellets...they didn't know the brand? wtf? Anyways I am a little wooried because he appears a little thin to begin with. Oh, I also tried soaking some pellets in garlic powder and water with no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not a concern, fish in a new surrounding, new mates. Very common to not eat for a while. At its size/age could go several weeks without food. Keep feeding the others, when Tex is hungry enough, it will grab something. Good looking fish

+1

you will probably find most lfs hardly if at all feed fish, if he hadnt been there long they prob never did and thus dont know. they do this to keep nitrates down and save money... ive bought 2 inch (5 star jewels lately) fish from lfs, taken them home and fed as normal then return to the same lfs 1-2 months later when my fish have grown an inch and my fish's siblings are still the same size!

Just a quick update he started taking pellets a couple days ago. Still not eating like a pig, but he is eating. The 2 other fish are warming up to him and seem to be fighting over him, lol. I am thinking though that removing one of the other females may speed up breeding. They both have their tubes out, so I'm hoping for some green texas x red mammon/kkp down the road

I see you're in PA. Where exactly is the pet store? What other fish do they hold, if you don't mind?
Nice Texas by the way...... I see what you're doing with those KKPs too lol

Thanks, I'm looking forward to him putting on some mas . I went to aqua world just north of Pittsburgh. They have a large selection of big fish, cichlids and some other . My only grip would be the relatively small tanks the fish are in. They seemed to have a lot of flowerhorns too, though I'm new to the hybrid thing so I can't comment on their quality.
