Hi just wondering if anyone can tell me if my little texas is a Herichthys cyanoguttatus or a Carpintis and how to tell the difference?

Herichthys carpinte has large blue-green pearls (these form a mosaic pattern in the rarer Escondido variant) whereas Herichthys cyanoguttatus is distinctively marked with much tinier spots. Also, H. carpinte very rarely exceeds 8" in length, whereas H. cyanoguttatus commonly gets to 12" long.

Yours are most likely hybrids between H. carpinte and H. cyanoguttatus, as are most of the fish sold as "Texas Cichlids" in the hobby today.

yeah, as stated above, it looks like it could be a hybrid between the two. and if not, then its a carpintis. for reference, here's mine when i first got him, and now
