Will crossing a texas and red terror put more red in a red texas or would you even get a rt from this crossing curious as we just picked up a apir of red terrors.

I take it this was the pair in Calgary. If you are smart you will breed the festae to each other, that's where the real money will be, not screwing around with hybrid crosses.

Thanks for the advice and yes it is the pair from calgary my wife has been looking for a pair for along time and when she found out about them jumped on them. They are nearly impossible to find so will take everyones advice. RD is there alarge demand for red terrors here in Alberta.

I agree with above posters. I am sure people will want festae anywhere. Put ad on craigslist or newspaper. Festae are known to be one of the baddest cichlids around.

Bill - you can tell Irene that the only reason that you got those, is because I passed on them. ;) It was very tempting, but Mark couldn't provide any photos & I didn't feel like a 3 hr drive just to confirm what their quality was, or wasn't. Funny enough, I had a sense that your wife might be the runner up on that pair.

Good quality true festae aren't very common in these parts, but there probably isn't a huge demand due to how large the males can get, and how aggressive both sexes can be. I know that Mark had that pair in a 90, but I would strongly recommend keeping them in a much larger tank, with lots of decore (as in escape routes) for them if/when they start breeding. And even then, have a divider handy in case either one of them becomes overly nasty towards their mate.

The bottom line is festae are not going to add anything desirable in a red texas strain, the males don't get red, and the females typically only get red hues when they are in breeding mode. You would lose pearling, and red, and probably gain vertical stripes. For the most part it would take away from your red texas, not add anything, other than size, and aggression.
