the same as with most cichlids

the males will have more pointed fins
the female more rould fins

males will show hump earlier
and tend to grow faster

That's a fairly lame and unreliable way to sex a fish - especially if you don't have a male and a female together to compare to. Texas are just about the easiest thing to sex, once they hit a few inches in size. The females will have a black spot on their dorsal fin, the males will not.

Yeah, the pointed dorsal and anal fins isn't really a set thing to go by...as some cichlids actually both sex's will have pointed. Big thing is color difference, or key trait, like the dot in the dorsal, white stripe in the dorsal (most Crenicichla), red belly....and so on. Another way to sex them is to vent. Kinda hard to explain, but males will have a pointy thingyer, and females will be more blunt, rounded = ovipositor.
