i just purchased a thailand thin bar datnoid about 6 in' and my question is he suppose to be sorda dark with black thin bars thats faded or will he eventually get more yellow with darker lines as hes gets use to his new enviroment. how long will this take?? or is there any way you can increase his color (more yellow) ? im really new to these beutiful fish so any info would really be helpful.. thank you. Tom

How long have u had it? What r ur water params? Tankmates?

Was it stable(displaying nice color contrast) in the store when u got it?

i just got it today, water perimeters: ammonia; 0, nitrite;.25 ( in the process of waiting for this to go down to 0 and nitrate; 20-30 temp at about 78 deg ph level around 7.0-7.2 tank mate with 6 in' jardini and yes it was the same thing as how it is right now when i purchased it at the pet shop and same with all the other ones that were in there as well. thanks

its random time. you cant really predict how they will turn out. it can take days weeks or months maybe years it all depends on their mood. ive had mine for able 2-3 months its still dark and faded bars. the best choice is to wait it out. even if they do theres no guarantee they will stay like that.

sounds like you're tanks not cycled completely...

i have a ? that might help cause i always wondered this... seeing that no one has successfully breeded them can you tell a female from a male??? and if not what if i say that the ones that always seem unstable(darker) are the females?

it could be but i talked to the guy at the pet store and he said that they just need a little time because he said when he gets them shipped in and there scared there usually black then when they settle down they start to turn bright yellow with dark lines. But i'v seen pictures and videos of datnoids with a stable yellow w black while there in the bag ready to be brought home. so do you guys think that some are just more stable in color than others?? does any one know any websites or forums that have info on datnoids color change
