Incredible site, I'll learn so much! I have a 40 gal fw tank with 5 cichlids (yellow, orange, blue/yellow, and two bumble bees), plus 5 tiger barbs. Been running the tank for a year now. One bumble bee has darkened, gotten somewhat aggressive, not eating, so I figure it's fry season or something. I also have a rescue fw tank wtih 1 parrot cichlid and 5 platties (parrot rescued from the bigger cichlid tank and doing fine as a community fish).

Had plans to buy a bigger cichlid tank, so husband surprised me with 60 gal tank the other day. Okay, will be setting up, transferring some filter crud and letting it season for a week or two until I get some nitrate levels. BUT, big question .. (No laughing) I want to put the NEW tank where the OLD tank is .. a bathtub is about 15 feet from the fish site - could I transfer the old aquarium water and fish there (with heater, bubbler etc.) while the new water ripens? Or a series of transfers i.e. old water to new tank somewhere on the floor, move the old tank, move new tank to new location, begin to age the water, then transfer all to new tank? I think I know the answer ... find a new location!

View attachment 552922welcome to mfk Rock Lady.. nice to meet you and glad your here... enjoy this great forum.. any questions just ask.. always here to help.. :D Beautiful tank set up and fish

So, I am going to have "moving day" today and will put the 60 gal tank near the 40 gal tank ... each cichlid gets its own gal ziplock and will hang out in a cozy spot for about an hour while I move the 40 gal tank. Once all the fish are out of the 40 gal tank, I'll siphon water to hold in the nearby 60 gal tank. When empty, the 40 gal tank will move to my office, water back in -- and cichlids back in. Whew .. then the 60 gal tank can be moved to the place where the 45 gal tank was and we can start on that water .. good grief ...

good luck moving them all

Moving day was successful! I'm now cycling the 60 gallon tank in the living room. Bought a cannister filter for it - water is looking great and can't wait for the final move for the cichlid bunch!
