Carnival games that allow winning of live animals should be illegal (I know they are other places). It's been a while, but at least every couple years someone that knows I have fish wins a goldfish at the county fair and doesn't want to keep it. Yet again, I am the mildly annoyed owner of a new, very unhealthy looking, comet goldfish. Another vendor at our fair also has a game where you can win juvie green iguanas and I'm hoping someone doesn't come to me with one of those (although I could and probably would end up keeping it). It's really sad that animal abuse like this is still so widespread

It sucks...If I was at a carnival, I would wear a shirt saying "These goldfish can get this (insert measurement here) big. Still want a go at that duck hunt?"

Or something like that. If you got enough people wearing the same shirts it would look at least organized and serious. :P

I just don't understand. If you don't want to keep the fish, why take the prize. Can't they just man up and tell the vendor "no thanks" and walk away after winning?

Juvi iguanas?!?!?! Seriously?! I would love to win one thought am not going to lie but ill actually have the means to keep it properly

They also used to have slider hatchlings, but I believe that was illegal due to the 4" rule. I actually got one of the iguanas when I was younger, but didn't know how to properly care for it and it didn't last long unfortunately. I have actually gone back and forth on getting an ig for several years now. When I first started working at a pet store a few years ago, someone returned a young one with a badly infected facial burn. I nursed him back to health for weeks and got his mouth back into a state where he could eat again and I REALLY wanted to just take him home and keep him, but I was still in college, so I wasn't able to house him and felt really bad about it. I don't know whatever happened to him, but I at least got him back to normal and gave him a fighting chance

It sucks that they do this but i remember i spent 40 bucks trying to win an iguana. And 3 other people did but i didnt. I got so pissed when i actually thought about it and couldve bought one for 10 bucks. haha

so sad to see all those fish in bags, i hate going to the fair when it comes to town and i just hate to think what those fish go through, having said that my mum adopted an unwanted fair fish nearly 10 years ago and it is still going strong, would defo not fit in the little bag anymore though!
