My feel good story of the day. Go to work today, there for a couple of hours when I see Animal Services pull up. Talk to the guy and he says he's there to pick up an abandoned pet at the vet clinic. I go back and talk to the girls at the vet and find out they have a maltese that the owners abandoned three weeks before. They had been taking turns taking it home and trying to find it a home but had no luck, hence animal services. The owners probably did not want to deal with the bills on an old dog.
Anyone who knows the pound knows that animals are only given a certain period to find a home before being euthanized. While small dogs usually fair well this one was eleven, not much hope.
I already have three dogs(all rescue),two cats(rescues),parakeet, turtle(rescues) and multiple fish tanks(with a lot of rescues) so my house is pretty full. So I of course, took the dog unable to send him off to near certain doom.
Carried him around for about 20-30 minutes, ran into a regular customer who does a lot of rescue work. Told her the story, she called her husband, and just like that the dog was no longer mine. These are great people and he now has a new loving home. I think he knew it too, just before she took him he licked my hand as if to say thank you.
That's my happy story for today. I have to stop typing now because it has made me so happy I can't see right now.
