The 6x4x2.5 tank. Is this what addiction feels like?

Along with the addiction theme of this thread, my house now contains the following glass tanks:
435g, 220g, 210g, 150g, 125g, 125g, 90g, 90g, 75g, 75g, 55g, 55g, 55g, 40g, 40g, 40g, 40g, 30g, 30g, 30g, 20g, 20g, 20g, 10g, 10g, 10g, 5g, 5g, 5g.

Don't worry, some of these will be in the classified section soon to raise funds for the 12'x4' I'm brainstorming. Just kidding (not really).

Stairgate was a massive failure. 4 of us couldn’t even hold it in the air for more than a few seconds. Taking it down stairs is not even possible. I seriously underestimated the weight of this giant glass box.

Plan B: take it apart, carry the sheets of glass to the basement, then reassemble. Not terrible news, just a few weeks delay. It’s about the journey anyways...right?

That’s a positive way to look at it. I say the same stuff when I’m frustrated. Lol.

210 is up and running. Currently occupied with future roommates of the rays. In a week or so I’ll move the Ray pups over as well

Used the snow day to finally build an idea i had bouncing in my head. A bio factor for K1 with a 5g bucket. 1 bulkhead at the bottom connected to a water pump. 2 bulkheads at the top. This will run as an auxiliary unit to the sump, located where the white bucket is currently

I figured I should post an update of the plan. This is mostly for my own benefit, as I can look back on this journey. But also, to help anyone in the future

The biggest update has been the decision to run a drip. In a tank this size, housing such valuable fish, it’s simply well worth the cost and hassle. My original post about changing 25% weekly, which would require emptying the water heater once and waiting for it to refill, is now laughable. Maybe I should edit that post to delete it out of shame.

Anyways, I’ve matured since then, and poring through threads here make the drip seem far simpler than I feared. I’ll post pics of my drip when it’s done, but for now I’m aiming at a 6gph drip, which would give me a weekly w/c rate of 60% (per angelfish.net water change rate calculator). Again, the rewards of a consistent w/c with a safer system, with almost no labor after setup, is well worth the risk. My water heater will thank me.

The rest of the changes take place in the sump. After some heathy discussion on this thread, as well as pouring through youtube, I’ve changed my mind about the mechanical filtration. I’ve purchased an 18” plater box, drilled the bottom, and plan on filling it with filter sock fabric, and cotton wool. This idea came from Richard Papworth’s youtube. I’m not sure of his name on here, but I know he’s lurking. I also eliminated the idea of using poret foam to contain the k1. I was successfully convinced by J jaws7777 that removing the foam to clean would not be practical. Instead I’ve installed a plain old baffle. I found that the inside dimensions of the tank is smaller than 18” (due to the thickness of the glass) so I bought a thin 18” sheet of acrylic and bent it into place. This not only hold without any silicone, but also creates a curved baffle, eliminating corners for k1 to get stuck.

The final note I want to make, is that I’ve reaffirmed my opinion that my Laguna filtration will work. At 5’ head height, with 2-3 turns, I’m estimating 2000gph will be delivered on a volume of ~550 gallons. I know the 3.6 turnover would make you gasp, but using Pentaireas bioreactors as a reference, they recommend 7 ft3 of K1 to have a flow rate of 600gph to 1800gph. So I’m just over their maximum recommendation.

Update photos. Started with daily scraping, about 50 razor blades, and disintegrating fingertips from acetone. And finished with the silicone. She ain’t pretty, but I did everything I could to smash silicone 1.5” deep in the seams. Pray to the watertight gods for me
