Just wanted to show an example of the algae eating capabilities of amano shrimp.

Piece of wood with moss infested with bba:

2 days later after being added to a tank with 50 amano shrimp (subadult/1" my holding tank for sales):

Nice before and after!

If I don't have a "senior moment" i will update in two more days (I expect the algae to be totally gone by then)

wow now those things eat some freakin algae!!

and 2 days later (4 days after adding the wood to the amano tank) there is no visible algae left at all

I apologize for changing the subject........ but it's kinda hard to pay attention to the shrimp with your avatar right there. That sure looks like some tasty bacon!!

Nice, I wish that my fish wouldnt eat those little buggers, so I could do a planted monster tank! I have tried in the past and everything is good but then I always get BBA infestations!

the nice thing about amanos is they get 2" long so are compatable with a wider range of fish then typical dwarf shrimp. Still food for larger more agressive fish though, lol. I do keep them with my discus though

hmm more info on this shrimp........ like were can i buy some ??

Caridina japonica/Caridina multidentata (japonica shrimp, amano shrimp, yamato shrimp, algae shrimp are all common names). They do well in a wide range of params from soft to hard water. They can also tolerate a wide range of temps from low 70's through mid 80's. They get about 2" long. Their lifespan is approximately 3 years. They are a low order shrimp which means altough they will carry eggs and the eggs will hatch into larvae in freshwater, teh larvae will not develop into shrimp without being transitioned through brackish water. They are entirely plant and fish safe and very easygoing shrimp despite their large size (for dwarf shrimp anyway). They are easy to supplement as well readily taking flake or pelleted food. they will eat filamentous or biofilm algaes.

As to where to buy them, i sell them or alot of times they can be found in LFS
