The amazing aquatic biodiversity of Zaire

I watched something on discovery channel about the Zaire... The scientists were collecting fish and i neary jumped out of my seat when i saw an ornate bichir and an elephantnose lol.

The congo river is a hotspot for bio diversity and evolution. There are so many different habitats in that one river that allow for so many different species to live in it. There's one spot that's 700 feet deep and is home to a white, blind cichlid. I would love to take a trip down that river some day.

that's alot! i bet alot of malarai causing mosquitos living there also. ^_^

i saw something about that on discovery channel. Theres a hypothesis that certain areas of calmer water are surrounded by very fast currents, causing the organisms in the calm water to be isolated and evolve quickly.
