Awesome link. However I wonder why some may develop more receptors in their lips than others? And if that were the case how come at least some f1s don't develop Jolie's? I am skeptical. I find the lips being enlarged from feeding and forming calluses to be a more likely culprit. Pure evolution alone would show these traits in captive bred fish too.
I don't however doubt that they do have receptors in their lips though. Would make sense. Very cool link Neil. Always love to see studies on the fish I love.

I agree with them being calloused. Blood parrot suck to eat and they suck to attack and pull scales off of other fish... Hell with that mouth all they have is suction lol. Still haven't seen a bp with enlarged lips. I'm not arguing with the scientist... Just saying that doesn't follow the "suction" concept. Maybe if bp's were out in the wild and sucked all day for food(not just to eat and/or attack) they might develope them also... Who knows. Those LIPS of wild Amphs are very different and I don't know if I would like that look in my tank. I think that look is an acquired look! Lol

Eww. Angelina Jolie. She's nasty looking now. She was hot before.
