Oooops. edit in - Apistogramma agissizii

A. agassizii?

I've just picked up a nice large male around around 2" TL to go with what I think are three females (although there's possibly a male in there, they're significantly smaller), and didn't realise it had a deformed mouth and head until I got it home - very annoyed. Going to ring up regarding a refund tomorrow.

It's especially annoying because he's very vibrant and boisterous, always at the front of the tank.

bugger, its bad when shops/breedr sell bad stock IMO, even when when that fish turn out to be ggod and you didnt realize it was bad. Does it look like a birth deformity or damage since?

PS where in qld are you (I used to live in brissy, thats where i got hooked on feesh)

I'm on the Sunshine Coast in Caloundra. It's a birth deformity - slightly deformed head and the upper-lip isn't developed properly.

Poorly lit sale tank and was in a bit of a rush. Hopefully they'll offer a replacement (any shop worth its salt will), and they have a nice male replacement.

bugger, def wouldnt want to keep it/breed it then. Best of luck with the exchange then and hope the new guy is as good or better. It can be a real billy stich getting decent stock down here at times, but things seem to be slowly improving. Our dark age style pro-trout laws dont help much either, grrr

Yeah, stock in aus is a pain in the ass. We can't even get true parrot cichlids. I wish we could. Someone needs to get some in.

They exchanged it without a receipt, ever got served by the manager who was very honest and helpful. They're Melbourne bred, so whoever is breeding A. agassizii in Melbourne and shipping them throughout Australia needs to either introduce new bloodlines from Germany into their colonies, or get on top of their culling.

Replacement Male. All up there were 3 males including the original male I bought, and this was the only reasonable one.

He's a little tattered and picked on, but with a bit of TLC and the ridiculously good diet this tank receives he should be good in about a weeks time. Photographs were taken about half an hour after he was introduced.

Edit: Apologies for the thread hijack.

Hi there... Congrats to both of you on your agassizii... you are very lucky to have access to such beautiful fish.. I can't find any decent ones in my area and shipping for only a few fish is quite expensive to my location..
Japes I know your setup and he's gonna be beautiful in there..
KW.. what size tank and tankmates is he gonna have.. he is beautiful..
Good luck to both of you... Sue:D

I would have called them mFK mini-fishkeepers heh But nice Apisto's everyone. Definitely on my "future keep list".

Susie, he is in my community discus (55G). Tankmates are discus, neons/cardinals, sparkler gourami, betta's (2m/2f), 1 male A. cacatuoide, 3 nannacara anomala and a couple of cattfish.

I plan on picking him a girly next pay.

Tank is heavily planted with some driftwood & rocks as well so theres never any aggro cept between the discus.
