Plans, 90gal monster tank.

Im doing this cause you dont see many planted tanks with monster fish and a moss wall this size.

Now housing:
3 Baby Pbass at 2-3"
1 Baby Jardini at 2"
8 Tinfoil Barbs at 2-3"
Albino Channel Cat 4-5"
4 Bala Cats 3-4"
3 Pictus Cats 2-3"

Thinking of adding.
African Butterfly Cichlid
Geo. Jurupari
Geo. Red Head
Cichlasoma Istlanum
All ranging 2-3"

Once these fish gets too big, they will be put up for sale or holding untill sold in one of our 2x 200gals or the 500gal =]

Will start the moss wall tomarrow with pics.

The jardini is growing quite fast since we got it at 1.5"
Reason why im doing the jardini is to see if this one will stand up to the rumor of jardinis fliping and killing everything at the 8" mark. If not...he will be kept with the bass!

Tinfoils are just cool, and add movement to the tank.

I personaly love the Bala cats, and they will go to a brackish home later on.

Pictus are just cool.

We had alot of 1-2ft blue ch cats, just never a albino so giving it a shot.

Thanks

Will need to see pics of this. Amd what is a bala cat?

That's what I thought but I know them as Columbian sharks. Balas are something entirely different. Still sounds like a cool project. Good luck with it.

sounds cool
we definitley need pictures

interesting....

what exactly is a moss wall? im assuming its a wall background of moss? anybody got pics? :) are they hard to do?

don't columbian sharks need to be in full salt water when adults?

Ideally yes, either half strength seawater too full strength seawater. Even when young they wont do well without slightly brackish water. If I were you I would try and get them to brackish or slightly brackish water as soon as possible, unless you have quite hard Alkaline water, when they get too 5 inches, I would consider this move necesary.

It's good to see a Monster planted tank, you don't see them often. How are you constructed the moss wall, form wire mesh? Java moss doesn't make a very good moss wall if you are using it, I can recommend Taiwan moss, Christmas moss or willow moss for Moss walls, Christmas being the best.

Cheers,
Mike

Im doing a moss wall on my 5gal right now. Turning out good.

I did try to get some willow moss, but all i could get in mass was java. So i went ahead and got a 5gal bucket full of the thing shipped over =]

Im using a knitting mesh and zipties, and the sandwitching method.

And thats all i have to work with, so well see how it turns out.

Pics will be up later tonight so stay tuned.

April 29th

Heres a lil update.

Each square tile is about 1sq ft so you get the idea of how big this thing is.

This is how the night started.

Then, with alot of time and cutting and counting squares, and pulling zipties..

I get this, this first layer of the sandwitch.

Moss will be layed on this first, then a 2nd same sized sheet but without suction cups will be layed ontop.

Will start laying the moss somtime next week when i have time.

It took my about 1hour to separate the moss and wash it off, then lay it down evenly for a 5gal...This is going to be a 90gal. haha
