The best investment that I've ever made in the aquarium hobby...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bump because I still think this was one of my best investments ever, especially since it's about to be hurricane season!

+1

We bought one this past winter ahead of a blizzard. It's still in the box, but it was not returned when the storm fizzled out.

Last year during Hermine and Matthew my genny absolutely saved my, uhh... donkey. Yeah, donkey lol

Honestly at our level of commitment to this hobby, I feel that an extra $3-500 for a generator should be considered a basic requirement for what we do.

Damn this thread, it had me looking on Amazon at generators, and I accidentally 1 click bought one. I guess I'll just keep it when it shows up, lol.

At least I bought a nice one. Its a dual fuel gas/propane unit.

Solar panels aren't really good for outage backup. The way they work is to feed electricity back into the grid to offset your usage, making your net usage (and carbon footprint) nealry zero. You still draw your power from the grid though.

There are advances being made to remedy this in the form of battery backup, but it isn't really common in the market yet.
