Please, if you would, post the name of what you think the best solar powered pump is. I am planning now for when Snappy and friends are grown, lol.

I am doing what I've always done with large, aquatic reptiles, mostly biological filtration. I just need the pumps to carry the water through the system.

I'm very cheap, so I would rather invest in a fine quality solar pump for his waterfall and filters than a cheaper, electric one (fight The Man, man!).

The waterfall will not be more than 4 feet tall. I will probably keep it at around 3 feet tall.

I am not quite sure the exact measurements but the pump will need to carry the water from the basin pond, 10 to 15 feet away up a slight hill.

I can rearrange how the pond is set up if a solar pump isn't possible for this setup.

I need one that will actually move the water. None of that little trickle, 5 gallon pond waterfall nonsense. :screwy:

BTW, I am in Tennessee and we get many bright, sunny days.

Any ideas about a battery storage center for excess solar energy?

Any other ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. I have never used a solar powered--anything. lol

Thanks guys!

I guess no one uses solar power? lol

Im interested, but can be of no help LOL This is a very good idea. I want to set up a pond with solar powered filtration. Havent started my homework on this yet

Out here in the desert where I live we are getting more and more solar power. Alot of people also use solar for water heating - the real basic slow flow through a black surface and back into the pool or tank kinda thing. I am thinking about keeping a tropical pond heated that way once I move.

That is a great thing Semper! One reason to love the desert, solar energy. We are in the mountains of Tennessee so solar power is kind-of a head tilter, lol. We get cloudier days than you I would say.

My husband isn't too thrilled with me meddling in it--says it is a waste of money. :| That's why i am starting out very small and cheap.

I was also trying to figure the cost of building my own solar panels to run our house on. I came up with a tentative figure of "around" $4K. I'm positive it will end up costing more though!
This is for our whole house, not just a pump, lol. I figured that was worth no sodas, candies and new shoes for a while!

There are so many variables though. Math is NOT my strong point, hehe. Maybe if they had told me in school math would help me be a better hippie, I would have listened better! LOL

Yeah Im moving to North Carolina later this month so I dont know how practical going solar will be for me . I figure if I can minimze the expense of running the big projects I want to build then my wife will be ok with me building my "crazy" tanks and ponds. I really want a nice deck with a tropical pond on one side and a koi pond on the other. Maybe even a salt water pond :)
I also plan on setting up my irrigation for the lawn and garden through my ponds so that all the water from water changes gets put to good use.
Done any research on windmills or water wheels? Im really thinking of trying a windmill driven pump.
