This little female caught my eye this morning(top) I’ve only been planning on growing out the one male, but now I’m considering keeping this girl. Mostly just so the male will (hopefully) show his very best colors and body formation once he is moved to his own tank.

justarn justarn Thanks. She is a little cutie.
Love that blue on the first one.
That is one thing I like about the females. The blue/green in their fins kinda glows. I will have to wait and see if she gets lots of blue on her jaw like her mom or not.
Currently her and the male pictured under her have about the same amount of blue on their faces.

Sexual dimorphism is really common in cichlids I've noticed.

Well, in a good number of them yes. But as an example, oscars are impossible to tell apart visually till 1. They spawn 2. you catch the female with her tube down before spawning 3. Vent them once they are mature enough. They don’t have defining marks, shapes, or colors for gender.
