just got back from an hour and a half on the bank of the monongahela river, caught 7 channel cats 19 inches the smallest and the biggest one i landed was 28-29 inches, missed 3 and had 2 break me off!!! one was an absolute monster!! I couldnt keep my lines in the water best night ive had ina while, didnt wanna leave but had my 7 year old stepson with me and its a school nite. also caught a couple wipers on maribou jighead with a spinner, just had to share this with someone:headbang2

Wow what a night you had! mind sharing what you was using for bait? I love cat fishing here in Illinois, I live really close to where the current world record blue catfish was caught , did you put them back or did ya save some for a fry ! dang it now I am hungry! LOL

didnt save any the mon river has a history of cancer causing polutants, i was using good old chicken liver, guys down stream from me were using cut shad, they did ok but not as good, i have eaten alot of fish from here tho, just kinda ran down the river unplanned( i live less than 500 feet from the bank)

the bad part is that i probably would have landed the monster if i would have retied my hook after i caught a 2 foot plus channel cat, got excited rebaited and casted without checking for abrasion

awww man you probably could of landed it for sure , I always retie after I catch a good sized fish, I understand about the water being polluted the river here is pretty bad also .

I went to walmart here and they have a twine in the catfish section of the sporting goods dept and I use that to make myself leaders out of I use its equal to 150 lb test but its braided nylon rope , you will have a hard time snapping it if you get hung up ... trust me I know ! so I always use a lighter line for my sinker line that way most of the time if you get hung the sinker is what is stuck and you can break it easier and its alot easier to just retie a sinker :)
