Hi Guys,

I still have confusion identifying this species. I feel this is a Gachua variant, blue cheek. Please comment accordingly.

Here are some pics:

Not sure what it is, looks like a gachua vairant to me. The the dorsal colours are amazing! Wild cuaght?

Yeah, It's a wild caught. 4000m above sea level at Meghalaya, India. He coloured up when I gAVE him cool water and lots of places to hide. :)

Hi Brucki, I am sure it is 4000m.. In places like Leh, Meghalaya, Kashmir in India, it is common to find such elevation. I personally have been on my bike through a road at an elevation of 18,000ft (khardung-la pass) which is the world's highest motorable road :) . Will post similar habitat pics. I dont have the exact one. :(

lovely, underrated, Gachua! we should keep more of them!

Hi Karthik,

i know there is high altitude in india. I just had not expected snakeheads in that heights ! Thats great interesting information, and for sure there is still much interesting channa to find in the indian mountain regions !

True Miguel. Just that, back here in India, noone likes the snakeheads. Morons want colorful imported fish which is deliberately released in some waters. :(
Can you believe it? :( Noone knows much about snakeheads here. Glad to be a part of MFK!! :)

Yes Brucki, I was shocked too. I am uploading a video I captured in Nubra Valley region of the Himalayas. People have spotted snakeheads here too, but not made famous. In this video you can see schizothorax sp fish jumping out of water to catch mosquitoes. This river also houses Glyptothorax and many loaches.

The habitat where the Channa I have was found is similar to this, hence sharing the video (in the next post). :) Hope you guys like it, please comment.

Cheers,

Karthik
