How many of the cheap knockoff canister filters that work like the over priced originals would I need to filter 800 gallons stocked moderately high with fish? And what Type?

I am thinking something in the range of 3-6 canister filters but i dont know which to choose, sunsun, jebao, odysssea or the many others. or which size.

i run a cfs 500 in my 55 and its the best filter i have ever had. but in a tank the size of yours why not run a sump? if you run 6 canisters like your saying, your gonna run a good load on your electrical outlets and have 12 tubes runing in and out of your tank

I will use seachem pond matrix for any bio media and micro filter sheets cut to fit to add to the mechanical. Its more of a indoor pond.

Iam trying to figure out what would be the best yet least exspensive way to filter. I am also considering nuclear canister filters.

I agree, Sump is pretty much the cheapest option

Build your own canister. Get a food safe 55ga plastic drum, a pump that pumps 4500gph or more at the head you want, a ventilated storage bin big enough to cover the pump, sheet of plexiglass cut to fit inside the top of the barrel,a boat load of those colored plastic pot scrubbies, enough sponges large enough to cover your intakes, amd the necassary pvc plumbing.
put the pump in the bottom of the barrel, cover it with the basket with holes cut for plumbing, attach the plumbing, fill barrel with scrubbies.
Drill numerous small holes in the plexi. Put the plexi on top of the scrubbies. Set your line from tahk to barrel so water spreads over the top the plexi.
The only thing I can't really describe is how to run your piping without seeing your tank. Also IME the plumbing will take some tweaking for personal tastes.
This is a very simple system should take an afternoon to build and cost is around $150 USD minus the pump. Even with the pump total cost is under 500. Canisters for that size tank are going to run you over a grand, even knock off brands.
I forgot to mention to make sure you have enough space in the barrel for the water to drain below the intakes, in case of power/ pump failure. Some poeple will run a second barrel just for this.

Why would you want to short change a 800 gal set up. I have the Eheims some have been running for 15years with no problems. I believe you will pay up now or later but you will pay. I would rather pay now if the circumstances permit. I would want the best.
