i was attacked by my baby female convict while doing a water change  . has this ever happened to anyone else? i was vaccuming the gravel then saw her come up to my hand and started nipping at it felt like pinching i thought it was cute. then it started getting harder and the male joined in. :screwy: but they don't have any fry or eggs is this normal convict behavior? it didn't hurt and don't worry i'm ok.
just something i found strange and wanted to share with everyone.

sounds like they are going into protect mode, but they should learn to live with the hand that feeds them. After a couple more rounds with you, they'll probably just give up and accept it. Mine will still go after the gravel cleaner every now and then, but havent struck my hand in ages. just my experience with cons.

I think most aggresive cichlids are notorious for this behavior (see bluegill/sunfish in your local crawdad hole).....

Sunfish, includeing bluegill are not cichlids.

I have been bitten many times by my convicts. They are still small yet so it's pretty cute watching them get all bent outta shape with my hand in the water and then turn around an get all excited when I am holding their food.

lol, thats cool!
yeah i'd say protecting their breeding territory.
I wish some of my fish did that, except for the saratoga.
So are you sure youre ok? you havent lost a hand or anything? lol

every time i put my hand in my cichlid tank the fish decide that its something they must be able to eat. its pretty funny actually.

Well aware they aren't cichlids, but they do tend to nip at peeps....Thanks for your concern....

Alright, just making sure because they are very similer and I have met people who thought they were cichlids or that cichlids are sunfish.
