I do not know what this is, it just popped up in my reef tank the other day. Its about an inch and a half long and shrinks into a spot smaller than your pinky nail at night. I figure its some type of slug and the bushy pom-poms are some type of filter feeding? I'm open to any ideas of what it is and how to properly feed it. It seems to prefer day to night. Currently, I use phyto-feast and on occasion reef snow, though I've been told reef snow is no good.

sorry i have almost no knowlege with saltwater, your guess is as good as mine. but yeah i looks kool as hell tho!!

man if i had the time and money i would deffinatly upgrade to a saltwater tank!

Looks like some kind of Nudibranch.

Its a nudi.

I cant tell you exactly what kind, since documentation seems to be lacking.

In any event, most nudis are specialized feeders, difficult to care for, and more often a nuissance then a welcomed guest. I would reccommend you at least isolate it while figuring out exactly what it is.

That can also be extremely toxic if they die and nuke your system, much like cucumbers.

Sometimes I hate the voice of reason that is my lfs. Instantly, the guy says,"Kill it."
"Why?"
"Have you lost any corals lately?"
"Yeah."
"That thing ate it."

Is it a sea slug

Yup, I was afraid of that.

Did the corals you lost happen to be purple or pinkish? I know some coral preds will take on the color of the corals they eat.

a large number of nudis are coral preds... :( it sucks but its true... though personaly I would find docuementation or at least watch it to see if it is actualy one of those.
