How much do our water changes cost us? My husband is trying to tell me I need to do less WC I do a 40%-50% wc once a week on my 100gal, 80 gal, and 36 gal.

So that's like 100 gal a week. He takes baths everyday and that take up the same if not more then my WC. I think he just wants me to get rid of my tanks.

Has anyone done the math on how much our water changes cost us? If so

How much is your water bill? You may have a leak, water is normally really cheap.

(Wow.. I'm not drunk nor did i use my head to type that... Mark this date)

When I am setup in my garage, I do big things..........I get into the whole large tank setups of 100g or more...Then i have smaller 55g breeders.........At one point, I had the equivalant of a little more than 1000g's operating.........i was paying less than $50 a month for it(the water and electricity)..............BTW, i do 35-50% water changes on all my tanks, every week.........

Yeah I don't think it is that big of a deal. Sure this hobby is not very Eco friendly. Unless you use filtered rain water. Maybe I could melt snow and then my amazon tanks would have really soft water.

Oh well.

We live in Northern California (near the Oregon border). We’re on a community water system. The above table shows what we’ve paid for our water. There are been several rate hikes over the years. In the summer of 2005, my husband brought home a 55 gallon tank he picked up at a yard sale. In March 2006, we set up our 300 gallon tank. We change out at least 800 gallons of water a month. For us, water changes are negligible when it comes to raising our water bill.

12/08 = 121.69; 1/09 = 123.32; 2/09 = 139.47;
3/09 = 127.47; 4/09 = 42.80 We had a leaking pipe (12/08 through 3/09).

It is not the water bill that will take up a lot of money but I think it is the electricity bill in the very cold months.

I live in Northern CA. Yea, I do not think you should give up your hobby because your husband is nagging.
