The declining interest in large cichlid

It may also be about how many hours of maintenance is needed.
A 75 gal tank with a shoal of colorful 5¨ Africans ciclids may only require 50% water change once per week, and an inexpensive HOB filter, that is fine with a 5 minute rinse at the same time, as a water change.
While a 150 gal ttank with just 2 adult oscars, or similar size cichlids might require double that water change volume, with a 75 gal sump, and an hours rinsing socks, and/or other media of at least twirce (or even 3 Xs) per week to keep them from getting scarred up with Hole In Head, and the house smellimg like a swamp.
Not to mention the sounds of humming pumps, and water shoshing some less than enthusiastic non-fish partners may be sensitive to.
As a mildly autistic person the sound of the pump and water sloshing can be quite peaceful at times but other times drives me crazy too lol.

Its a way of life i guess, cant live with it (sometimes) but dont wanna live without it either

Yeah...it's a bit like marriage...:)

I find the hissing chuckle of bubbles (which has always been present in my home, even at the lowest ebbs of my fishkeeping) very relaxing and soothing. Even my wife, with virtually no interest in aquariums, enjoys the "white noise" effect.

She's a bit less enthused with what she calls the "torrential Niagara Falls" sound in the basement fishroom. It's one of the reasons...along with spiders...that she virtually never goes in there.

I am secretly pleased...
