Hey all,
So in my recent purchase of some Odoe pikes from ichiban tropical (thanks JoJo!) I decided it was in the interest of my wallet to cover my African/Asian tank, and what better (cheaper) way to do it than bubble wrap haha. I knew it would make a difference in at least evaporation but the difference it makes in keeping heat in the tank is incredible. I pulled the wrap back last night in order to check the temp and it, for once, felt like 78-79 degrees in the tank haha. I left a good gap between the water surface and the wrap and the corners and HOB filter are uncovered to allow gas exchange but other than that I'm pleasantly surprised at what $5 worth of packing material can do for a tank haha.

I will gladly show you the set up tonight when I get home from work. very simple:
PVC pipe to serve as a rigid set of hangers essentially, bubble wrap zip tied to the pipe, and flipped so the bubble wrap is between the water column and the pipes. you could, for ease of gas exchange between the water and open air, flip the design over, allowing a gap as it where between the wrap lid and tank but I chose the other way so the odoes wouldn't have a space to fire out of the tank if they get spooked. makes a much softer lid too in case you have jumpy fish, less damage than crashing into a glass or acrylic lid.

Please do. I need to do this for sure. I am glad I saving bubble wrap for last few months and some of the prices are large strong

Was it for saving in electricity ? Was your heater running ?
well I had been contemplating doing this for some time, but never really had the drive to do it haha. Then I bought the odoes and since I've heard they love jumping to their deaths I decided it was time. The electricity/energy savings will be nice, as the heater was on more than I figured it should be.
