so i just got my FX5 (not in use yet) and have noticed its set up completly different to all other canisters i've seen or used. Just want to clear up how this baby works????
I'm guessing the water enter and spins around in a whirl pool like motion and water leaves from the bottom of the filter....am i right??? also there is a pipe in the inside intake on the lid which lead right down to the bottom, if the water enters the filter at the bottom and leave from the bottom dosent that leave a high chance for the water to leave with out being exposed to all the media???

Also do i need any more mechanical filtration or will the sponges that come with it be enough? i seen some fine filter pads for FX5 online, should i use them? if so what basket will the be most effective in? and is there an other order i should stack other media in??

sorry bout all the question, the FX5 is ver new to me
Cheers

Watch the video. If you don't have it on dvd, youtube "FX5 setup" and it will come up near the top. Basically the FX5 is awesome in a word. Get some bio balls and fill up at least one tray with them. Then get some sponges in the others.

The video is ok but not suited to monsterfish that produce a lot of waste.
The most efficient way to setup the fx5 without modifying, is to fill each of the trays with high surface area media such matrix, micromec, substrate pro etc. The top basket add fluval blue pad or some filter wool / poly batting etc.
