Hey everyone.

I currently have a 75g housing...

1 archer (4")
3 mono seabea's (3" or so)
2 mono argentus (3")
1 columbian shark (3")
1 green scat (2")
1 figure 8 puffer (2")
2 angelfish (3")
1 black ghost knife (7")
1 pleco (6")

I have a dilema. I'm going to be getting my room tiled, and hence I will have to move out all of my tanks. I know theres no way I can try to pick them up, or even move them with little water, the gravel alone in my tank is 125lbs...

My plan was to split fish into two seperate holding tanks (30gallons/38 gallons) for the week or so while my room is being done. I was going to place the mono's in the 38 and the rest in the 30 probably...

I want to know the best way to do this. I was planning on using all water from my 75 gallon over the course of the next week or two to fill up both tanks, and also add a good layer of gravel from it into each tank. Ill also add a power filter from my 75 onto each holding tank while the fish will be in there w/ established media. Is it totally useless to add tank water and gravel before I add any fish, will the tank loose its cycle? Is there any better way I can try to do this?

Any advice is much appriciated, I definately dont want to loose any of my fish!

that should work as long as you use the same water and substrate you shouldnt lose your bacteria moving tanks really isnt that bad IMO just a little heavy i have never lost a fish in a move and i haved moved some of my tanks across town three or four times over the years evev the big pond wasnt that hard to move

my qusetion is are you going to seperate these fish into two tanks for good considering you have brackish and freshwater fish in one tank i would turn you 75 brackish if not already and remove the BGKs the pleco and the angel into a freshwater setup

yes i am planning on moving the angels/bgk/pleco into a new home and keeping all the brackish fish together in a new tank (120 gallon) after the moving is all said and done. Probably going to put the ghost and pleco back into the 75 and set it up for an aro, hopefully they'll co-exist.

not that im trying to defend keeping massive fish in small tanks, but ive seen full grown 2ft aro's in 40 gallon tanks at pet shops for months on end.. not to say i want to do that, or that its right, but im not talking about getting a full grown aro and making it live its life out in my tank, im talking about raising a baby aro till its big enough to upgrade it to a bigger tank.. i do appriciate the concern though.

**I guess ill just move one of my power filters onto each holding tank with media, fill, and reacclimate the fish into each making sure to temperature match, and hope for the best, seem like a good idea?**

yeah you have the right idea..
move the filters and fish over at the same time, you shouldn't have to cycle..

I've done the same thing you're describing many times..
