Anyone seen these?
http://www.eco-sphere.com/home.htm
I think I saw one in the discovery store once when I was younger. A bit expensive but I am quite interested. Not trying to advertise just understand. What kind of shrimp could live in such an environment for 10+ years???

This is the species - http://www.petshrimp.com/hawaiianredshrimp.html

Also, on that page is the common argument for NOT buying the eco-spheres. But I've seen both side present good and founded arguments so who knows. I still look at the eco-spheres on eBay sometimes... cheaper, still too much for me. I'd just end up buying the shrimp for a tank, I think it'd be cheaper than one of those things lol

Oh thanks you're awesome!!

I agree those things are wayyy too expensive!!! Cheapest I have seen them for is like 60 bucks...crazy :screwy:

Lately I have really been leaning towards more shrimp in my life. I doubt I would want them in such a small container but I found it cool that they live in those conditions are 10 years or more. Tough little shrimp! Kinda sad when you really think about it tho.

I used to have 3 of them my brother got them for $10 each from a mail order company he used to work for. They are cool but they dont last all that long.

We've had a lot of customers coming into the store I work at describing something like this. They always buy it at the mall, I'm sure its a knock-off of some time. It comes with a bamboo shoot, a couple of frogs and a snail, all in about a quart of water. The snails always die so they come into my LFS looking for replacement snails.

Make one yourself!
add everything inside of it to a glass sphere. Worked for me!
My LFS has Biospheres that last longer for a tenth of the price.

My younger brother and I each got one of these from my older brothers wedding. Mine got cracked while my mom was cleaning after about a year. My brothers globe still has 2 live shrimp in it... 8 years after he got it! I'm not lying either. I couldn't believe the shrimp were still in there the last time I went home.

Doesn't come close to a nice large tank though.

Where does one obtain a glass sphere? I am sort of considering this but wonder how the salinity, water quality, etc comes into play.
