So last night I had something very interesting happen and I was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience or ideas on the subject.

So normally when I go to bed I turn my tank light to blue. However last night I was feeling nostalgic thinking about the navy and choose to turn the red light on. Immediately the bleekeri (Polleni) came out of his cave and was free swimming, something he only does when begging for food. I laid down in bed to continue watching and to my suprise, my JD came out, gills flaring. This is unusual because, for those of you how have read my other stuff know my JD is almost docile. At this point the bleekeri returned to his cave and the JD followed. After standing off abit they actually locked jaws (which I've never seen any of my fish do) for a few seconds before violently thrashing. I went to turn on the light and inspect damage and they immediately broke it up. Few scrapes so I turned on the blue light and everyone just went to sleep.

So, in conclusion, do y'all think the red light is just a different length they couldn't see and thought it was totally dark and that's why I got this response or is it something else?

P.S. I got a pic but it's not great because of the red light.

Nope, I've tried it a few times resently but never seen this response (because I go straight to sleep).

Red light wavelengths in fish, as well as humans, stimulates feeding motivation. That might have been the cause of the activity.

Combine that with the rarity you use the red light, it might've stressed your JD out as well. My JD is the same... A big pussy

Interesting, might try it when it's feeding time next time. I've having a hard time getting them on pellets.

Oh that i don't know about because i'm having the exact same problem lol. I have tried starving them for at least 5-6 days and by that 6th day i just give in because I don't want them to suffer. I have tried multiple different brands and so far I've found 1 which they will accept - Xtreme Pellets. Only problem is when I ordered them i got the 9mm pellets lol and only one whos mouth they fit in is my jag

Although the red light does stimulate food motivation i don't know if it will help with what specific food they choose to eat lol

I vaguely remember something about red lighting being invisible to many creatures. So, I believe that what you've witnessed is what actually happens during darkness
