Has anyone kept or bred one of these? I heard that they're popular, but I'm not too sure. You certainly don't see them around here in SD, but are they any up in the Northern parts of CA? I heard that they're peaceful and can be kept in groups (harem I guess?). I've been looking for these cichlids everywhere (as well as the GBR but GBR's are much more common here than the Checkerboards). Oh, and I'm really mentioning the Dicrossus filamentosus, but the Dicrossus maculatus is fine too.

They've been frequently mentioned in aquarium literature for years but I've never seen them in person at fish stores. They are fairly easy to obtain via mail order, though. I see them on Aquabid all the time.

If they're anything like the Dicrossus foirni that I'm growing out, they'll be fine in small groups with a properly sized tank. Mine only fight at dinner time.

They are growing fast and they're voracious little eaters! I have five of them and they're alone in a 55 gallon, so that probably has something to do with the quick growth. I'm really babying them. :D
