Since I see so many "what's the best food for my FH?" threads and I've done tons of research myself I figured I'd sacrifice a little of my time to list the typical high-end fish food we consider along with ingredients and analysis (when available). Feel free to add anything I missed.

BTW, I didn't list them in any particular order.

I love this post, however your title is a little much. This cant be the End all Be all when Hai Feng, Krill and others aren't listed. Anyway this is a good thread. I will PM you a few other foods. If you can get info on them, I will ask the mods to make this a sticky.

Definitely shoot them my way! I'll look up Hai Feng. Forgot about that one. Just remembered Danachi too. I just listed the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Also, I was just going to list available prepared foods and their ingredients.

Great post. Love being able to compare nutritional analysis so easily. When you add Hai Feng, Danichi and Krill see if you can add them to original post to make comparing them easier as well. Nice Work!

Thanks and will do!

I still don't understand why people would spend so much money on Asian imported fish food. I understand you want to give the very best for your fish and I totally agree on that part. But some fish are given those food in the hope for better color and head growth. Given the fish with good gene for color and good nuchal hump, what is the different between grand sumo or chingmix as compared to frozen shrimps, omega one or freeze dry krill? They are less expensive.
I test out my fish a few years back by feeding my fh koi food and I kept my water really clean. My fish had no problem showing his hump, which I knew it was a water head to begin with.

Fish food are not regulated by the FDA, so how do you know that the ingredient listed are actually in the food? How do you know that the food are not repackage with fancy label?

IMO spend a little more money on a better fh and so you don't have to spend money trying to get your fh better color and bigger hump.

Great thread! More foods should be added, ie, Hikari sinking carnivore, sticks, Carni-sticks, etc
Dainichi- Always had great results.

As to NLS, is the content the same, whatever the pellet?

Cos we love Japanese products ^^;

No offense to the OP, but this thread is pretty much pointless, as every last commercial food on the market that can be fed to a CA cichlid, can be fed to a flowerhorn. That's a whole lot of companies/brands, and a whole lot of different formulas.

As to NLS, is the content the same, whatever the pellet?

No, as stated above, there are several NLS formulas that can be fed to a FH, from small fry food, to growth formulas, to adult maintenance formulas.

I also agree with Fishnut, some of you might be surprised what's in some of the foods being imported from Asia. In Canada we have strict import regulations in place, before a food from Asia can even cross our border the manufacturing facility has to be inspected by agents from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Most Chinese companies have refused them access. That alone speaks volumes to me. Melamine anyone?
