Hello,

After 16 years my syno catfish is coming to the end of it's life. He/she is upside down at the waters surface, still breathing but not moving very much. :(

I have has the him/her from barely 1". It is sad, but I know that I did as much as I could to give the best conditons I could.

Sounds like you care a good deal about this fish. That being the case, it's safe to assume that this catfish's life has been more fortunate than most. Just think of what a tiny percentage of fish are lucky enough to live so well for so long.

You've certainly done well by the fish in giving him a good long life.

You seem to be a great carer of fish.If you love that fish then make the ending to his life fast and painless by freezing him.
I admire your dedication to this fishes life.
Im sorry for your lost but i think this fish was lucky to have found a owner such as you.
You gave him a great life.

Thank you. I am a bit puzzled as to freezing is not painless. I have read about using acoseltzer tables would put the fish to sleep.

Wow thats a lot of water changes ,sorry for your loss..

keep a fish for 16 years and then kill it by freezing it.. i think its crazy and no one can do it. n freezing is painful.. imagine being kept in a freezer and left to die there.

Sorry for your loss but 16 years, man, I still got 14 to go until I can say i kept a fish happy for that long!
I heard that clove-oil is used to euthanise Oscars on the less painfull way as posible.
Freezing is cruel, and will cause internal organs to bust before the fish is really dead.
