As I said few months ago, I will try grey gravels. Here it is. The grey gravels (marble) are from east coast Taiwan (according to the LFS). The bichirs really like the new substrate. They started cruising around without any purpose (almost all of them including those never cruise). Everytime, after I switch gravels, they get excited a while.

Don't ask me why there's a disparate weird fish among them.

Before I put in new substrate, I moved those chunks of wood and the black gravel, and keep the bare tank for 2 months. Their color did turn lighter as compared with the time they lived on black gravels:

She is really dark with black gravel (the same one on above photo).

She is the least active one in the tank, but, she is pretty active as others now:

She's happy

Even the big old brother is happily cruising.

AWESOME!!!!!

Amazing CDM! I love the new grey gravel, looks great and the contrast is still good. Do you have a new filter system? Overhead filtration with pump on top of the tank? Can you show some more pics? Really interested in seeing how it works.

Cheers

First of all thanks for the great comments of my dear friends here.

Let's wait few months to see how the color/contrast will go. Yeah, there's a overhead system (a regular one). The sump tank is leaking, so I have to use the spare overhead system while I am figuring out the leaking point. I think I might keep it running after I fixed the sump tank. It is just a regular overhead. The water flow up from its right side and flow into the dry space of the sump on its left side. The power head of the sump tank was sealed currently.

Not sure if you can see the overhead clear.....
