The future of fish in 2050

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is a very scary situation.. there was actually no fishing limits in the indian coasts.. but the govt is taking steps to control this.. control of the sale of fuel to vessels.. fishing limits are being regulated.. release of juvie fish(weight based).. there is also a lot of aquaculture happening for fish from the ocean itself.. a friend of mine owns a fishing company.. visited us recently and asked if we would like to invest in an aquaculture project.. this was like for tuna etc.. but people will be people.. there are so many people around the world who dont even get one square meal.. they will or these countries will not be bothered about all that.. eventually at some point of time there will be a major issue..

I hope that's not true, but we haven't done a great job so far as the designated keepers of the animals. I'm not a militant tree hugger, but as the world population of humans increases at the current rate, its gonna put even more pressure on food fish populations.

How can we even profess to manage the oceans when we don't even know the breeding habits of most of the large predators?

Very good thread. I think that alot is being done to help the ocean species. A lot of fish farms are coming up to build species back up and to also help breed for food instead of fishing. We dont here about these breeding farms because people dont want us to know how bad the problem is. I saw a special about it once and it was never on again. I for one dont see this kind of change happening that quick. This prediction will take much longer to happen but with everything trying to be done to stop fishing companies I think we will be ok

Anybody else?

Yeah Seeing awesome fish die off sucks. I'm just glad it won't happen for a long time

Yeah, you can see a lot of fisherman are now suffering in a way from over fishing in the past... especially in China where pollution is bad it just makes the situation even worst...

My thoughts are that people need to make some better choices and eat less meat overall.

Factory farming and large scale fishing are primary sources of this problem. So in order to solve it ( well I think like global warming, it's too late to solve it all now), this is one of the steps people need to take.

One of the areas people need to make better choices concerns shark fin soup. It's an appalling waste and cruel. I don't think anyone here probably eats shark fin, but just in case.

I would encourage everyone to at least try out some veg*n dishes. Try some veggie burgers, you might like them.
