So a few years back I bought a tank that was beyond dirty. The sides looked painted white from all the calcium/hardwater gunk that had dried repeatedly on the outside of the tank. It was cheap I could not help myself and figured it would be easy to clean. Well I got it "clean" pretty easy but its like the glass is etched in the spots where the thickest parts of the white gunk were. When I get it wet the spot vanishes but as soon as it dries it is back. It even has a different feel than the regular spots on the glass. Anyway looking for someone who has had this issue and solved it.

Try a razor blade (carefully!) over these spots. I have a 29 that had a couple of nuisance spots. Windex, vinegar, water...like you said would make it go away when it was wet, but it would be there again once it dried.

A razor blade and another quick cleaning with vinegar finally removed the spots :)

Agree, razor blade and vinegar always does the trick.

Surfs up dude :)

I tried that one and it didn't work on the etched spots. That's how I removed all the white gunk. This is what is left behind after that. Its almost like big indentations in the glass that are a slightly different color and texture.

I had a similar problem with a 55 recently and went to petsmart. Found a small plastic handled metal edged scrapper and it did a fantastic job. I was able to apply a significant amount of pressure and it looks like new. Only thing is you have to keep the area wet. I think scrapper was like 2.79. Good luck.
