2 weeks ago set up my 1st Salty - last monday bought an unpgrade for my large freshwater predators that turned out to be - 180 gal Oceanic, 30 gal wet/dry sump, Nautilus TE skimmer, 4x 650-900 utility pumps plus larger for sump, UV sterilzer, Drip line and float, HOB powerhead exhausts, 5' HO LED + 4 pin lights included, stand, wooden hood, all for $500.

It'd be easier to list whats missing -heaters, RO, & backflo check valves. It does have shut off valves tho. The only things living in the tank when I bought it shocked me - feeder goldfish and freshwater clams it took a week to get all the junk out of this system.

This would be a serious waste on Freshwater fish so now cycling w 80lb sea sand base, 80lbs agrontite, 60lbs Base rock - 30 LR (was all i could afford) - we'll bump it up to 180lb's using the 30gal salty to cycle the additional LR

I've read that Bio media is a NO NO, the system came w/ 1 sq ft of balls,
should I remove them?

That is a steal and then some. Well Done!

Yes I would remove the bioballs. If you want you can replace them with some base rock, or leave that space to put other equipment.
