This one was from Spain, though we didn't know that at the time, since it was a double-blind judging. Gold leaf was laid on the pie. It didn't have a flavor.
This one was great. The crust, sauce, cheese distro. Everything. The only complaint I had was that it had gold leaf on it, which is more gimmick than anything. And since one of the judging categories was "Viability in a Commercial Context" -- i.e., how practical is it to make for typical restaurant service -- I had to score it low in that column.
Gold is inert. It will pass through the body without being absorbed. I guess I'll have some valuable poop soon.
