State of chaos
Alright, almost everyone has started off with the Common Goldfish, Carissius arturus. :goldfish: I had them in a 5 gallon. (Tiny, I know.) But they were small and had plecty of room. We cycled the tank, put blue gravel on the bottom, a little green tunnel and a castle. I know a Corydoras or Shrimp woyuld've cleaned the algae but we never saw any growth. We put the clear cote or whatever for their slime in whenever we were supposed to. (My parents did it.) And fed them twice a day. Yet they all died. The longest was Marcus, but his shape was less elongated than our other Goldfish:goldfish: Dexter and they chased eachother. (So Marcus was a she. When I found out almost 5 years later that it wasn't Tag, it was quite disturbing.) Dexter a few times would sit on the bottom, half dead, and be swimming around the next morning after some medicine was added. What was done wrong? Not that I'm considering getting Goldfish again, but we ALL want to know. Fire away, MFK buddies.

goldfish are mass breed, they were probably sick or somethin' if everything else was in check- but 5 gallons is awfully small ;)

btw, i beleive goldfish are Carassius auratus, not Carissius arturus

Correct

5 gallons is MUCH too small for goldfish, but people do it all the time. I even had them in a smaller tank when I was a kid. I'm assuming you mean you added something like stress coat (clear coat is a name given to some sealants and would be extremely toxic to fish). How was the tank cycled before they were added?

BTW, corydoras don't clean algae ;)

we just ran the tank/filter. as to the Cory Cat
:wall: as I watched them in the LFS I remembered reading how they are one of thw few fish that can eat tubifex because of their burrowing.
