You ever just give up on trying to add decor to a wet pet fishes tank? My 11" oscar (walter) and I have been having a battle for the past 10 days now. I added a nice 2"-3" thick stick/wood to his tank. He knocked it down the first day. I thought it just fell so I wedged it in better the next day, and that next morning it was down again. So I wedged it in again and this time put a rock at the end of it to keep it in place. Next morning it was down yet again :duh: It's now a daily thing for at least the past 10 days now. I know the little jerk is doing it on purpose lol

Sometimes, some fish know what they like and what they dont like...

My old fahaka was an avid gardener... if i placed any anubias in the wrong place where it blocked her sight, she would trim those leaves off with her teeth...

Never really had much probelm with any of the wood luckily, although all the wood i use tends to be very large and not easily moveable by any of my fish...

Print this out, tape it to the tank for him to see.

My parrots are always redecorating! Kong didn't like a large spider plant so he pulled it up overnight and had it upside down in the middle of his tank! I kept planting it and he kept pulling it up. He's always pushing or dragging the pothos vine around, back and forth...its like he can't decide where he wants it. Boss didn't like a red plant I put near his pot and pushed it into a corner near a rock several times. Patch dragged a large plant from one side of her canister to another. She doesn't like leaves in her line of sight. So far my O Brick hasn't done any redecorating. Of course you could try crowding Walter's tank with a lot of deco...that way he'll have to pick what to attack.

I think you're O is having a blast messing with you. :grinno:

Yep. I gave him the benefit of doubt for the first few days. But over the weekend I walked up to his tank in the morning and actually said "you're doin it on purpose aren't ya you little &^%$" :nono:. I may just run a stainless screw through the top trim to fix his wagon. Then if he figures out how to unscrew it I'll admit defeat to him lol

This may sound wild but it could even be the shape of the stick he doesn't like...Kong hated the spider plant but when I put in some red/green leaf plants he started to pull them up then decided to 'shape' them. I ended up rooting them under a small boulder. He's left those alone ever since. He has marimo balls to push around for exercise too.

A frying pan and can of grease next to the tank might work. :naughty:

Funny thing is, I think like me, he's very OCD. Any little change in his tank and he gets all bent out of shape. I have two lights on his tank, one twin tube shop light and an LED light. Not long ago one of the bulbs in the twin tube burned out and he went and laid on his side at the back of the tank till I replaced the tube. He is so OCD :)

Oscars are notorious for this sort of thing. Let him redesign. Too much messing with his tank and he may start to pout. Laying down on his side all sad because you and him can’t find a middle ground. :-)
Best advice is let him scape it himself. No one gets oscars for an aqua scape.
