my mangrove escaped out of his cage.i heard something scurring around ,and thought it was my boston terrier,i letter found out it was my mangrove monitor,i had to chase him all over to get him back.

Glad you got him back. Make sure the lid or whatever you are covering the tank with is REALLY SECURE!!!

don't you have a nile monitor?

Maybe the lizard was escaping from the hands of an inexperienced keeper?

Its called a locking lid kid, its standard on any aquariums, even fish! It keeps the animal in and not running around your house.

Glad you found him, seriously though if you plan on keeping him please build it a larger home 6'x3'x2' minimum.

Yea really......locks for the lids are like three bucks........if you can't even get that you can get big rocks or bricks to hold the lid down even........

I'd be a lot more careful though......I can see the mangrove getting out, biting your sister again or even hurting your dog and you mom making you get rid of this one too.......

it is, at least imo, not horribly small but still you're talking about a lizard that will get to be over 3ft long and a tank that small wouldn't allow for much activity other than basking. LC, you might want to read this- http://www.herpkingdom.com/CS/mangrovemonitor.html wait let me change that, you SHOULD read this but you probably won't
i've never seen locks for aquarium lids, i'd imagine you can easily make one though. i've never had anything that was a real pain about pushing open lids(except when the cat wanted my skink, nothing could stop it)

That's why I put minimum ;) regardless it's better than a 55 gallon.

I posted 3 different caresheets (in his other threads) and that was the average minimum size they recommended but whatever...
