Other names: Tasmanian tiger, zebra wolf, Australian hyena, tiger wolf, dog face possum, tiger possum.

While many list this species as going extinct in 30s, a more acurrate date of extinction is
(If I recall in an old wwf mag) was in the 60s or 70s based on analysis of a bone found.

Sightings still occur today.

Diet: prefers smallish animals (and likely couldn't kill adult sheep), captive individuals were said to decline wombat meat, the preferred method of killing was said to be disembowelment, they did not chase prey for long periods, instead they were lunge and stalk type predators (like cats), and did not hunt in packs.

Dog faced possum....I called someone that once and got in trouble.

Did he look like a possum?
No one is that ugly but she did resemble a dog.
Thread reminds me of a fairly recent Willem Dafoe movie in which his character was sent to hunt down the last known Tasmanian Tiger.

Mainland thylacines said to be smaller than Tasmanian ones.

This animal likely didn't use trails much but may have hunted its edges.

Thylacines were called baby snatchers by aboriginines.

They reared young in backward facing pouches.

I disagree, I've seen people who could lose a beauty contest to a Opossum.

Do you remember what it's called.?

Habitat: formerly preferred grassland, however may also be found in woodlands.

Not known to attack adult humans.
Loved to raid chicken coops(what predator doesn't ?).
