Hello all,
I thought I'd share this experience with you all.

I recently put a female Dempsey (8") in with a smaller male(6.5).
The other tank inhabitants were a 8-9" senegal, and a small(4") jewel.

The male beat the bricks outta the female. I left them together for about a week, and things simply were not working out like I hoped.
She spent a lot of time hanging out under the Emperor 400's overhang.

So, I removed her, and added my 7" male Green Terror, hoping he would show the male Dempsey how to be a gentleman.

I put the female D in a 30G quarantine, as she was badly beaten, missing some scales, had some white spots and was fin-nipped to near death.

This is when I noticed that she was not really hanging out under the Emperor overhang by choice. She was having problems swimming and was floating to the top.

She would swim only at the top, struggling to reach the bottom for food. If you looked through the glass top you could see about 1/8th of her body above water.

After doing some reading, I seen "the Green Pea Treatment" for such symptoms. I was very skeptical at first, and from what I read not many know why this works. Within 2 days of feeding her canned peas, she began swimming normal, and now, about 5 days later, is back to her old self.

Discuss :D
