I saw these while searching the stock list at TUIC. I wanted something different than just your everyday Petsmart fish. Rapps describes them as "3-3.5” F1 grow outs of rarely seen, blk. freckled labridens-like species". Now everyone's probably going to chime in and say you have one too lol?

Do these fish have a common name? Do I call them He-Pantys or something for short? :grinno: No seriously do they?

I bought several kinds of fish recently from Rapps but these two are the coolest so far. Not the prettiest of them all...that would be the Argentea's, but personality wise they're awesome. Anytime I come to the tank they (the male at least) are always right up front in my face. Maybe it's because they're a little bigger than the others at 3.5"...most of the others are 2.5". I'm watching the male right now he's really cute. He thinks he's a Red Hook and trying to school around with them.

Do we have anyone knowledgable about these these fish? Like what's they're max size? When I google for info, I've seen a couple of conflicting maximum sizes listed. They're not supposed to get very big.
I think they're a male and female. Check out the first two pics and tell me what you think. The rest are just the male cuz he's the most awesome-est fish. Any other info I can get would be very much apprecitated too. Thanks.

Very guapo little fish yet again balton!!! Nice camera work also.

very cool
i think they are like the other members of the labridens family. i'm glad you like them! if you ever get sick of them... ship them my way :D haha

good luck man! i've wanted to see some pictures of these guys

robmcd thanks. The camera is just a common Sony 5.1 MP with the famous Carl Zeiss lens...and I agree he is muy guapo indeed...like his keeper haha.

Thanks ewok I've never had a Labridens before either but I'll do my best to take care of them so I'll soon be taking pictures of big Pan..panto's...what are they called again? :D I read they call them the Chairel Cichlid and the general concensus on size seems to be 16cm..or about 6.29". Is that accurate?

see, you've already forgotten their names. this will make their transition into southern california that much easier :D
haha

i think they get around 10-12 inches or something like that. labridens don't seem to grow to giant monsters like midas or jags.

ok well I guess we'll see if they stay alive on me into adulthood. I only got two of them. They're growing out in a 156g with a few juvie Trimacs, Carpintis' and Argenteas. Kind of a tough crowd but they're doing fine so far. The chunk out of his tail was like that when I got him.

as far as you getting them..fogettaboutit :)

Nice pickup! Two males?

Juan Miquels said that the blue labridens and pantostictus are the same fish. You might get more info if you do a search using the name blue labriden.

Who is Juan Miquels? Sorry to sound like a noob if he's a big name. Do I have 2 males? How can you tell them apart? That's ok because I shouldn't be trying to breed them in a community tank anyway.

Thanks for the tips, I googled blue labridens and saw a 'today in the fishroom' post by Aquamojo. Check these pics out...they're nice.

The Cichlidforums fish profiles list them as 2 separate species.

go check it out. that is the grand daddy of all cichlid sites :clap :cool-1:

You sure that's the 'grand daddy' of cichlid sites. I was just there and there was not even 1 registered user on the board and I was the only guest. They're not very busy...MFK still rules. :headbang2
