So it began in middle summer when someone contacted me with a request to build them a rimless aquarium that was to be used as a reef aquarium. After building the aquarium, the purchaser then needed all the equipment. Conveniently I had all the reef equipment needed so he purchased the entire reef setup. This thread will follow the progress he has made on the setup from start to finish.
So currently this tank is running with the hawaiian black sand as substrate and around 130lbs of fiji live rock. He is running two 55x3watt overhead lights at around 50%, 2 koralia 1400's on a smart wave controller, a coralife super skimmer 220, a 40 gallon sump with two filter socks, a media reactor, automatic dosing system, RO unit with storage tank with auto top off built in. This whole system is on display in the centre of the living room and all the plumbing is located behind the wall in another room. Out of fear of damage to the aquarium the purchaser chose not to drill the tank, instead went with the CRS overflow box which works very well. Its a very clean setup at a good budget price. For a new guy who just recently got involved with fish keeping this is a very nice start for him. Its been a very nice feeling helping him out with this and watching what you once owned come back to life. A few of the pictures shows what some of the koralias looked like before and after cleaning, my secret is let them soak in vinegar then use a scrubbing brush. Coraline algae will scrape and dissolve away.
