I was having problem with my Uro beating the crap out of my other CA's. I put him in his own 55 for a couple weeks and completely re-did the 75 with new rocks and wood.

Friday I put the uro in the 75 with the JD, Salvini, and male con. So far so good.

The sal and the uro will swim up to each other and sort of lean to their sides and brush against each other, but then both will swim off. The Salvini is also breaking up fights before they get to serious between the Uro and JD or con.

I was curious to what exactly this side brushing behavior that is going on between the Salvini and Uro means. Does the Uro accept his place in the tank now?

Generally fish posturing will include them swimming closely to each other, opening their mouths, flaring the operculum and fins...while next to each other. In essence what they are doing is pushing water against each others lateral line to show how big they are. It's the fishy equivalent of a pushing match.

Wow that's weird wild stuff Mo.

I can get the same response from Jumbo. If I touch the glass with my finger tip, he will come at me with an opne mouth. If I hold the flat of my palm against the glass he will do the side water flip thing..probably because the side of my hand looks like the silhouette of a fish. It's awesome.

Good info Mo!I have seen fish do this but didn't know exactly why

My Severums do this, it's great to watch.

I was hopeing for a less aggressive mayan but i got one pretty far from that i found out after buying it that less aggressive ones are pretty rare usually a really aggressive cichlid
